I was glad to see a place where I could meet people that understand what I am going through. My husband is super supportive but doesn't fully understand, and neither do I.
Any advice or suggestions on getting supplies, foods, life in general would be so helpful.

Kamala,
I will look into this for you and get back to you ASAP. Please allow a day or so.
So far, Some treatment options that I have found include:
Taking ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers. Speak to your doctor!
Aggressively controlling of blood pressure.
Tight Glycemic control
Dietary counseling (Most insurance plans will pay for nutrition counseling in CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) cases.
Monitoring and treating cardiovascular risk factors, particularly smoking and high cholesterol.
Consulting a nephrologist, especially if the GFR is lower than 30.
I will continue to look into this info for you. In the mean time, you should schedule an immediate appointment with a nephrologist and also an appointment with a endocronologist that is "Diabetes Certified".
If recognized in its early stages, chronic kidney disease can be treated and progression to renal failure slowed or prevented.
Please contact me if you have any questions. You have my private email address and phone #.
Comment by Mary R. Kolk on July 22, 2012 at 12:12pm If you are taking a statin drug, check with your pharmacist and your doctor. Statin drugs can cause havoc with your kidneys. If you are feeling any type of muscle pain or weakness, you should definitely tell your doctor immediately. Waiting could cost you your kidneys.
