Good Diabetic Snacks for Children

One of our members inquired about diabetic friendly snacks for her 2 year old.  I did some research as I am not super familiar on the subject.  Her is what I found……

Some snacks that should be ok for a 2-3 year old are:

  • Cheese
  • Animal Crackers made with apple juice and no added sugar in limited quantities
  • Pieces of raw apple or carrots
  • Yogurt
  • Sugar Free Ice Pops
  • “Natural” Peanut Butter
  • Sugar Free Jello
  • Sugar Free Chocolate Pudding
  • Whole grain crackers
  • Whole Grain Oatmeal
  • Whole Grain Cheerios
  • Chocolate Milk made with skim milk and sugar free syrup
  • Frozen banana pops – slide a banana on a stick, rill in granola, nuts, or oats, place on wax paper and freeze

I also came across a company that I am not familiar with but am intrigued to learn more about.  It is called Kays Diabetic Foods.  (www.kaysdiabeticfoods.com)

From her site, I found these snack comparison charts.  Seems like a good product, I haven’t tried it at all though.

Apparently you can find their products at hundreds of grocery stores, natural food stores and vitamin outelts around the country.  Visit the site for more info.

You can also check out www.kids.jdrf.org

I hope this helps. 🙂
